🖥️ PC EMULATOR 2000

Welcome to your new digital desktop. Please do not turn off the power while updates are installing...and yes, this project is literally an alpha. I made it a few days ago.

About the Game

Step back in time to the golden era of chunky monitors, dial-up hums, and chaotic desktop toys.

PC EMULATOR 2000 is a bite-sized retro PC experience built for the SA Physics game jam, where your desktop is your playground... well, sort of.

Boot up the system, launch some totally legitimate software, click things, move things around, hey, maybe try that internet that everyone is talking about and remember how fun the simple times were.

Features

  • Interactive Desktop: Open, click, and mess around with apps; don't forget to take out the garbage.
  • Play Bitfall: Drop in and test your skills collecting bitty coins; I hear they might be worth something someday.
  • Surf the Web: Fire up the vintage browser to explore a wonderfully sketchy slice of early internet history.
  • Nostalgic Gimmicks, with a modern twist: Packed with sights, sounds, and hopefully secrets waiting to be clicked.

    *Features are subject to change

Controls

  • Mouse: Point, click, drag windows, and interact with everything on screen.
  • "BITFALL": Uses the arrow keys, or even a controller if you have one connected; don't forget to use Ctrl or the action button to do sick tricks as you collect 'em all.

Special Thanks to:

  • Infra Recon

Yeah, nobody else helped with this :) I'm pretty much a god at engineering these days. I should probably work at one of those game studios that people keep telling me about, anyway, this one was incredibly complex yet fun to design.

AI & Asset Disclaimer

  • Code: Used AI to optimise code. Things can get a little messy when making stuff—I have to get all the ideas in my head out and then optimise what I can fast.
  • Art & App Icons: I intentionally created a full-on model using Stable Diffusion to generate images, notably the app icons, effectively capturing the old XP style with modern visuals. I don't take hard shortcuts; I put in the work to meet my rule of above-average quality standards... Also, I don't see any artist out there willing to do work for free, lol. Also, I rarely ask these days...
  • Sound: Some of the sounds were created using a trained model that I had to set up and train myself. I had to put a lot of hours in way before to get this right, because simply asking an LLM to generate a song is kinda cheating; rather, make and train the model yourself, right? right...
I also did use some premade sounds created by various individuals; I'll credit them later when possible.
  • 3D Models: "But there is no way you modelled the room in the game; that's professional work..." Yes, I know how to model a room; I've actually had that asset for ages.

And that's about it; all the other stuff was made by a human, mostly me. I did borrow a computer model, though.

I'm highly effective at what I do, and if I'm not... I will be.

Jam Specific Info I qualify for:
- Hobbyist.
- Diversity, I believe Cats are people too; also, I am a fellow human of Colour.
- Humour - I think I'm funny or, at the very minimum, crazy.
- Greatest Post-Jam Improvement: I don't know what that means, so I'll put it here anyway, cause why not.

I don't think I qualify for Best Physics or Ragdoll Physics, but my game does have Physics...

The fact that you are still reading this tells me you are cool.
I really hope you enjoyed the game experience; it does take a lot of effort to come up with these things, and all these types of projects are completely free to test out and gain inspiration from. Just credit me, though ok... please.

Cool kitty

He is pretty cool. Thanks for playing the sim.

Ladies and Gentlemen, behold my newest experimental project that will help me to create bigger games.

There really are some good techniques here, and honestly, I'm kinda shocked I did this in a few days. Always wanted to do something like this; I feel as if this is just the surface level of what this could actually be.

Anyway, it's time to retire...as in, get some sleep...I'm not going anywhere.

I'll see if I can do more updates/ bug fixing later; the possibilities are endless.
